<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Give Yourself a Summer Glow like this beautiful woman whose outfit shouts SUMMER IS HERE! Do you wear all-white outfits?

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Summer is the time of year when you want to:

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Relax in cool, easy fabrics -- comfort is key

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Wear bright, fun colors

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Put on a summery lipstick color with lots of glossy shimmer

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Eat light meals and enjoy longer days<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">It's about not overdoing it -- it's about lightening your spirit and feeling loose and lovely. There is something so welcoming about sultry summer days and nights, especially in parts of the world where winters are particularly harsh. It's a time to let yourself go wild and show a little skin! I know this is tricky when you're over fifty, yet there are ways to let some of that beautiful skin show and let the warm rays of the sunshine bring out your summer glow.

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Here are some summer fashion ideas:

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Silk and cotton tunics over leggings or skinny white jeans

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Oversize linen blouse over leggings

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Colorful lightweight scarves for a put-together look

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Bright color blocking is a simple, elegant summer trend

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">I love maxi dresses for summer, especially with a cap sleeve

humor. There are so many advantages to growing older -- the wisdom,
experience, freedom from older children who have flown the coop, but
there are an equal number of challenges. The key to growing old
gracefully is keeping your sense of humor intact because body and
hormonal changes continue to show up with regularity and precision, and you just
have to deal with them the best you can. A sense of humor about the
whole thing comes in handy:

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Here are some funny truths about being over fifty that I think you'll relate to:

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; font-size: large;">Truth #1: Eyeliner can’t be applied while wearing reading glasses.

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">They haven’t invented eyeliner application glasses yet, so many of us are applying our eyeliner and eyeshadow blindly. There are
some tricks to make it work. One is to use a liquid eyeliner and
instead of drawing a line, just put a series of dots along your upper
eye line. Make the dots as close together as you can – from far away it
looks like a continuous line. Then there is the eyeglass reader trick:
buy two inexpensive readers at the drugstore, pop out the left lens on
one pair and the right lens on the other. Voila! Perfect eyeliner
eyesight!
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; font-size: large;">Truth #2: Your search for an anti-aging face cream can feel like a quest for the Holy Grail.

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">The youthful skin of our twenties – soft, clear, almost translucent –
starts disappearing in our late twenties. As we get older, the skin
tissue starts to sag, fine lines appear, and eventually turn into
“railroad ties.” Nothing to do but try to slow it down. Aging is
inevitable, but some anti-aging products actually work! You might try a
product and it works for a while, then it doesn’t work anymore and you
swear you’re not going to waste your money – until the next one comes
around. We spend billions of dollars on anti-aging products every year,
as the search for the Holy Grail of translucent, youthful skin
continues. Email me directly if you'd like to know more about what I think works.
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; font-size: large;">Truth #3: Comfortable, sexy shoes is an oxymoron.

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Let’s be honest. Our feet hurt without ANY shoes on. The thought of
finding a pair of shoes that fill the bill of being both sexy AND
comfortable is another search for the Holy Grail. Okay, I’m
exaggerating. There are shoe designers who understand that we have a
host of foot ailments, like plantar fasciitis, bunions, corns, and
ingrown toenails that drive us away from high heels. We refuse to
squeeze our tootsies into a pair of sexy pumps even for 10 minutes. I
remember when Oprah Winfrey admitted that the sexy high heels we saw her
wearing while inter<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">viewing guests were donned at the last minute right
before the cameras came on while she was seated. She would walk over to
her chair barefoot! The truth is, if shoe manufacturers want to sell
dressy shoes to baby boomers they have to make them both comfortable and
sexy. Good luck! I know many of you ladies have said the heck with
sexy, the pain is just too unbearable, and life is too short to be in
pain all the time. But admit it, if someone invented a drop-dead
gorgeous sexy high heel that made your feet feel like they were walking
on a cloud, you’d buy them, wouldn’t you?

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Truth #4: We wouldn't mind going back to the 40's style bathing suits.

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Look how carefree these women looked in their suits. She didn't have to
keep checking to make sure her buttocks was still covered, or whether
she had a muffin top. Women wore the equivalent of a short dress in the
water. How wonderful was that? The older I get the more I appreciate
this bygone era fashion statement. On the other hand, when I go to the
beach nowadays, I see women of all shapes, sizes and ages enjoying the
sun and water seemingly without caring about how their bodies look.
They're having too much fun!
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; font-size: large;">Truth #5: Sports bras are bras, right?

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">The older I get, the shorter time I want to be pushed up and held in by a
tight, underwire bra. In fact, I’ve given up underwires altogether
because I heard the underwire isn't good for you, and this is
leading me closer to the day I will wear exercise bras with all my
outfits. Doesn't give you the best silhouette, but it's REALLY
comfortable. Women may have been on to something in the 60's when they
burned their bras.
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; font-size: large;">Truth #6: We are envious of the woman whose hair turns gorgeously gray or white in her fifties.

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">I am so tired of coloring my hair, but alas, my hair is not turning
gray/white in a beautiful, sexy way. So, I will continue to color it.
I’m lucky, I suppose, because I color my hair blond so the gray doesn’t
show as much. For those of you who have dark hair, you’re probably
coloring your gray more often every year. I guess that’s when many women
say that’s it, we’re done coloring, and whatever color it is, it is.
Aren’t you so happy to see the older models sporting gray hair and
looking sexy as hell?

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">I know how you feel. You’re washing your face in the morning and catch your silhouette in the mirror and you shriek back – who is that
person and what happened to the twenty-six-year-old? Where did the years
go?<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">I’ve finally come to terms with being of a certain age – I’m
over the hump so to speak. Now it’s a matter of making every second
count, not wasting a minute feeling badly about my body, learning to
feed and take care of my body, and spending more time doing things that
bring me joy.

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; font-size: normal;">Style trends have come and gone over the decades (thank goodness!). I've adapted my individual style over the years, tweaking it here and there to fit my lifestyle, body and career changes.
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; font-size: normal;">

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; font-size: normal;">What about style after fifty?

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; font-size: normal;">I don’t believe that age has anything
to do with style. If you love current trends, wear them. If you have
fantastic legs, show them. If you prefer to cover up completely, you can
still look stunning! Everyone can have fabulous style at any age. The joy is in discovering your style.
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Make Style Your Own in Your Second Act!

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Here are some of my Style Success Rules to Live By:

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Know yourself.
What is your coloring? Has it changed since you decided to go gray?
What is your body shape? Knowledge is everything and knowing how to
flatter and enhance your coloring and body shape is a great way to
approach style. You don't want to walk around looking pale and tired, do you? Knowing the colors that bring radiance to your face is worth a million bucks. It gets you noticed for all the right reasons!

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Appreciate your assets and work with what you have. I
can’t tell you how many women I work with tell me about the body parts
they hate. It usually takes me by surprise because that’s not the body
part I expected her to criticize! I used to wish I had an hourglass
shape with round, full hips. Then I discovered all the ways I could
create the illusion of an hourglass shape from my rectangle shape using garment shapes, and that wish melted away.

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Build a wardrobe of essentials. Great style is built on a foundation of good basics. Your lifestyle dictates what are essential pieces for you. When you invest wisely in essentials that fit beautifully and bring you pleasure, it boosts your confidence. For more information about essentials, download my free ebook, "Your Ten Wardrobe Essentials."

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Create a wardrobe that allows you to Shampoo. Rinse. Repeat.
What does that mean? When something works, run with it. If you feel beautiful and powerful wearing a pair of dark-colored straight pants, a white or blush top, and a structured jacket, then your closet should have several straight-leg pants, a dozen various light-colored tops, and several structured jackets. An outfit can have many re-incarnations and some of the most stylish
women I know wear the same combinations over and over. Why re-invent
something that is already successful?

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Identify someone who has a style you admire.
Understand the elements of her “look” and define why it appeals to you.
What are the attractive style features that reoccur in the way she dresses? You can adapt the pieces for your look if they don't work on your particular body shape. In
my upcoming “30 Days to Style Success Workshop” I will have participants create a
style vision board to define the looks they admire. This is so helpful in creating a reference for style
when you build your wardrobe.

I meet with a lot of women who comment about the physical changes
that have taken place after crossing the monumental threshold of turning
fifty, with a shift in weight in one direction or another. Some changes
that are perceived as undesirable by those who dictate the "standard"
for physical beauty are actually positive and necessary for our
emotional (and physical) well-being. Some women benefit by gaining
weight and only need to shift over to a different garment shape that
accentuates their new curves to feel beautiful once again.

Why do
women ignore (or loath) the beautiful changes that age brings on?
Perhaps it's our society that celebrates youth over wisdom. Perhaps it's
the fault of a fashion industry that is myopically in love with the
young prepubescent body. It doesn't matter. It only matters what YOU
think about your age and your body image.

A recent client wrote to me, "My
body size and shape have been morphing and changing since I was sixteen
years old. It was only after I met you [Linda Waldon] that I realized I
had been trying to keep up with every body shift by purchasing more
clothes. Clothes that often hung awkwardly or were what I considered
pretty colors as opposed to the colors that were right for me. The most
powerful gift I received from you was awareness. Learning how to align
your outer style with your inner being creates a steadiness to one's
personality that translates in the outer world as CONFIDENCE."

The
point is if you're in "body hate" mode all the time, you're sabotaging
your confidence and your potential. What good can come of that? I help
women rediscover, revitalize, and reinvent their beauty, body, and style
so they wake up every day feeling beautiful.

Here are 4 simple ways to reconnect with your feminine beauty:

Acknowledge your body shape and love the skin you're in.
I wrote an article several years ago called
"Seeing Your Body as a Work of Art." What I discovered after marrying
an artist was that artists look at the human form as a work of art. No
judgment. No "body hatred." The human form has lines, curves, shadows,
folds, and colors, all creating a unique presence that cries out for
fabric to be draped beautifully over each fold and curve. Wear clothes
that create flattering lines, don't pinch and pull, and most of all,
elongate and slenderize. Learning about your body shape and how to drape
it beautifully can be a transformational experience.

Do something every day that brings you joy.
Someone commented to me the other day at my husband's artist reception
that I looked beautiful and radiant. I responded with, "happiness
shows." If you love what you do, the joy will permeate every cell in
your body and you will radiate attractiveness.

Be unforgettable in your appearance. It's about time you had fun with fashion! Create your own signature look and flaunt it. See
some examples of cool summer outfits below. I love colorful,

She has traveled the world to search out and collect the most unique pendants, precious stones, bones, and metals that she spins into masterpieces. I'm a big fan....

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">I wanted to show you some of Helen's beautiful pieces and also share what she has taught me about layering necklaces. There is a way to layer 2 or 3 necklaces to create an interesting, unique look that appears completely original!

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">As you read on, I'll explain some of Helen's layering techniques.

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">First, let me point out that Helen's color palette is a True Colors COPPER, which is what many of you know as AUTUMN. She wears chartreuse with ease, as well as teal, red brick, plum, and mustard yellow.

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">Here is Helen modeling three layers of copper necklaces over a chartreuse cashmere sweater and denim leggings. One layer of copper just wouldn't be enough!

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">Same chartreuse sweater. Three different necklaces. Torquoise and silver chunky short necklace, silver pendant on chain, and longer torquoise on chain. Helen adjusts the lengths of her necklaces specifically for layering so each piece is showcased.

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">If you think chunky
necklaces are reserved for tall or large women, think again. Helen is a
diminutive 5'3" and she ROCKS her chunky styles!
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">If you prefer a more delicate look, try layering necklaces such as pearls and gold chain necklaces to create an elegant, simple look.
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;"> The background of Helen's black tunic shows off two beautiful torquoise necklaces.
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">Same black tunic, different necklaces made of chunky amber, Bakelite, bone, wood and ebony. See how the colors complement Helen's skin tone and hair, and pop off the black top. It's no accident that her neckline opening and the amber pendant meet at the same location.
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">Another way to break up a basic black outfit is by adding layers of pearls, as Canadian singer, Nelly Furtado does below.

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">If you're wondering how to determine what length your necklaces should be, you have two ways to figure it out.

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">The first way is to use a tape measure and literally wrap it around your neck and stretch it down to the different points you want your necklaces to fall. Write down the lengths and take the measurements with you when you buy necklaces.<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">The second way is to locate three locations on your body: Your collar bone (ideal for choker styles), your sternum (just above your point of cleavage -- ideal for pendants), and your belly button or just above (for long chains). For small-breasted women, a location just below your sternum works well, too. But, if you have larger breasts, your necklace will not lay smoothly at this location, so it's better to keep necklaces above your bust line.

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">I love Helen's teal-colored tunic paired with quartz crystal, fresh water pearl, gold tone agate, and vintage metal beads below. Simple and elegant.

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">Helen Anderson (pictured above) is a jewelry designer and local San Luis Obispo resident. She designs original necklaces and earrings, but she will also take a treasured piece of jewelry and completely redesign it into something you'll enjoy wearing every day. I've given her several old pieces that I never wore, and Helen re-purposed them into beautiful necklaces.

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">Helen always says that a beautiful necklace will transform a t-shirt and jeans outfit into something special! If you'd like to get in touch with Helen, you can send her an email at oakmede@aol.com.
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">Belts
are sometimes a forgotten accessory, so I thought it was time to
resurrect the belt's status as a treasured piece that can transform an
ordinary outfit into something special.

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">How
many belts do you own? If you're like me, I've been collecting belts
for many years. Belts stand the test of time, although, I don't have my fringed belt from the 70's any longer -- darn! There are wide belts, skinny, leather, suede, bangled, beaded, metal, the worn look, shiny patent leather, and more.
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">Belts give your body shape more definition, and when used around your waist gives you an hourglass look. Belts can make a bulky sweater or blouse look fitted. I wear a skinny belt with my jeans to help them stay put.
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Let's talk about how women "of a certain age" can wear leggings in a sophisticated, stylish way and still be themselves. Leggings have a place in our lives because they're versatile, comfortable, and fit into a busy lifestyle. I've seen controversial articles about how older women shouldn't attempt to wear leggings -- nonsense! My advice? Go for quality legging fabrics and use layering techniques to reduce the chance of looking like a student wearing an over-sized sweater.

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">Here are some examples of how to wear leggings like a lady:

Aesthetically I prefer a mismatched look -- it fits my artsy style. Okay, the other reason I don't match bag and shoes is I'm too lazy to switch handbags. Now you know. Plus, my handbags are in a neutral color within my color palette so they go with everything I wear.
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">I have a deep regard for women who match their bag with their shoes. <span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">I’m over sixty and I can still make heads turn with an entrance...…and if you asked me HOW, I’d say it’s primarily because of MY CONFIDENT STYLE.

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">Like you, I have my assets and my flaws. The difference is I know how to play up my assets and play down my flaws! I've learned that it's more important how you FEEL in clothes than how you LOOK. <span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">What you REALLY need to walk into a room and get attention is A CONFIDENT WARDROBE. Clothing can influence the way you feel, think and act! When you express yourself with clothing, your look will be UNFORGETTABLE and COMPLETELY AUTHENTICALLY YOU.

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">It's not about face lifts, cosmetics, wearing the latest trends, or the most expensive jewelry. It's about finding YOUR CONFIDENT STYLE. This is what I teach my clients, and it works!
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">I believe women over fifty are redefining what style and career success means. We are rocking our second act with purpose and passion!

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">Here’s what it really takes to become UNFORGETTABLE in your appearance… and how you can make a huge difference with your gifts.

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;"><span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">First: Wear only clothes that make you feel beautiful

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">Being unforgettable starts when you walk out the door feeling beautiful and confident in the way you look. You may have awesome high-quality skills and services that change lives. If that was all we needed to be successful we'd all be there! What you REALLY need to make an impact and attract clients to your business is to FEEL beautiful and powerful on the INSIDE and project that confidence on the OUTSIDE with your appearance.

Every day, when you open your closet, you should have a wardrobe of unique, personally pleasing pieces that fit your body perfectly and create a vibrant glow.
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">You can create the most beautiful wardrobe by doing these two things NOW:

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">Clean out your closet and remove anything that doesn't make you feel beautiful. There's this concept that many women are catching on to, and it's called Minimalism. I mean how many pairs of black pants do you really need or wear? Be honest, you go for the same black pants every time, don't you? Why is that? Because they fit the best and make you feel the most like YOU!

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">Wear only colors that make your face light up. This will make a HUGE difference in how you attract people. Color is the first thing people notice on you, so why not wear a beautiful color around your face? If you insist on wearing neutrals, throw a colorful scarf around your neck and watch the compliments flow.<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;"><span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">Second: Help them remember you through your personal style<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">Wear clothes that express your personality. When you have a definite style that sets you apart from everyone else, you will help people remember you.

What's wrong with making people feel envious of your impeccable style, or chic flair? You will become a role model as you express your joie de vivre and inspirational vitality through your appearance. My look is structured chic, with a touch of bohemian attitude -- my hair is curly and wild, and my accessories are bold and colorful. That's a big reason why I stand out.

Listen, anyone can wear a pair of jeans with a t-shirt. The outfit is super-comfy and COMPLETELY FORGETTABLE. Especially as we get older, it's important to use creativity and beautiful details in your outfit even when you're just running an errand. People are more likely to remember you when you're wearing an extraordinary necklace with your t-shirt, or walking in kick-ass, red pumps.

I love discovering wedding fashion design companies that come up with trendy, attractive and affordable styles for this very special occasion. That's why I was thrilled when Weddington Way contacted me and challenged me to come up with a style board for a NYE wedding. How fun is THAT?

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">In my experience working with wedding parties, a bridesmaid wants to create a fun, joyous event for the bride. However the bridesmaid also wants to show her personality, be comfortable, and most importantly, feel confident in her bridesmaid attire. I chose Weddington Way's Veronica Tuxedo Gray dress for this challenge. It creates the perfect canvas for a glammed up look with pink accessories galore! I think NYE calls for pink champagne and all the trimmings! Take a look at other bridesmaids dresses from Weddington Way here.

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">I talk to so many women who don't like the way they look in clothes so they give up and make do with the sad clothes in their closet. They end up looking old-fashioned or frumpy which does not attract new clients. If this sounds like you, it's time to release all self-doubts about your age and appearance and make up your own fashion rules that express ALL OF YOU!

Many of today's business woman over fifty are gutsy, sexy, and personality plus! Their style expression is completely personal and effortless. They've given themselves permission to dress their own way, and they're not a slave to fashion trends (unless they work!).

Ladies, it's time to GET IT RIGHT! You can't afford to make the wrong first impression, and you certainly can't afford to make costly mistakes with your time, energy, or money. Here are four tips to step up your style and stand out!

<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">4 STYLE TIPS TO STEP UP AND STAND OUT:

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Tip 1 - Clean out your closet at least once a year and get rid of the following clothes:

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Business suits - if your business requires a conservative appearance, break up the suit into separates and add a gorgeous scarf or brooch. For example, pair the blazer with wide-leg or skinny pants in a complementary color. Pair the trousers with a moto jacket or belted cardigan.

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Elastic-waisted pants that make even the skinniest women look big.

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Long, A-line skirts - if you're saving them because you think they'll be back in style some day, forget about it.

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Bulky, cable-knit sweaters - these will only add weight to your body and increase your frump-factor faster than anything else. Do not wear sweaters with appliques especially around the holiday!

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Frumpy-looking shoes - you know what I'm talking about, the clunky, heavy-heeled shoes that you know are NOT sexy or flattering but they're really comfy.

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Tip 2 - Build your wardrobe around simple, classic styles that flatter your figure, and add interesting and unifying pops of color, texture, and pattern:

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">In the photo above left, Anna Wintour is keeping her dress and coat silhouette simple and classic, letting the pattern express her story.

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Susan Street, photo above right, is wearing three classic pieces with an updated spin. Her accessories pull the outfit together in a sophisticated way.

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Look successful. Let's face it, we're drawn to people who look successful! Spend money on well-tailored blouses and blazers, luxe fabrics, fabulous colors, trendy accessories, comfortable and fashionable shoes. You'll get more "cost per wear" from classic pieces.

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Tip 3 - Create a business uniform that represents your personal brand:

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Creating a business uniform reduces the stress factor of shopping or getting dressed for last-minute client meetings. Build a uniform of core staples in your neutrals with pops of color. Your business uniform should align your inside and outside, feel comfortable, express your personality, and fit your body shape properly.

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Have your "wardrobe essentials" on hand, cleaned and pressed. Pieces such as camisoles, dark jeans, blazers, button-down blouses (I love to pop the collar and scrunch the sleeves!), slacks (my current favs are cigarette-length pants), cashmere sweater, dressy boots, dressy coat, and accessories.

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Do you know what color palette best represents your personal brand? An easy way to create a uniform is around a color palette because your wardrobe will easily mix-and-match. Buy colors that match your eye color, skin tone, and hair color. If you've let your gray shine through, you can wear cool, rich tones in blues, violets, and intense or muted pinks to add personality. If your skin tone is warm, colors like orange-red, plum, bronze and gold add richness to your uniform.

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Tip 4 - Know what works with your body shape and what flatters your figure:

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">First, determine your natural body silhouette created by your shoulders, waist, and hips: hourglass, inverted triangle, triangle, rectangle, or apple shaped.

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Know your proportions and dress accordingly using garments to balance and elongate your body. For example, a beautifully pear-shaped woman has a well-defined waist and full hips -- I adore this sexy silhouette! Since your lower half is larger than your top half, the key is to wear clothes that create balance and proportion by drawing the eye upward and wearing brighter colors and more embellishments on top. The length of your tops should always hit your hipbone. Accent your small waist with a belt or empire-waist dress. Emphasize your shoulders with a boat neck or cowl collar. De-emphasize your hips with wide or bootleg pants, A-line skirts and dresses that flow gently away from your bottom half. If you can wear heels, the height will elongate your leg line. If heels aren't an option, wear shoes or boots that match the color of your pants or skirt to create a long, lean look.

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">This week's topic is about CONFIDENCE. Why is confidence important?
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; font-size: large;">

Take this short quiz and rate your confidence level

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Confidence
is one of your most important assets (and sometimes the most fleeting). It is more important than what you
know or even how much experience you have. You've heard the term, "Fake
it til you make it?" This phrase is a mindset of positive belief that promotes confidence. The "fake it" part is the awareness that you may not know everything about a particular job or task before taking it on. For example, you may have to walk into a room at a networking event and make a good first impression with strangers. The "make it" part is a mindset of success. So, even if you have fear or internal self-doubts, you have the belief that you can face anything and be successful.

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Every job I ever got was a "fake it til you make it"
moment during the interview. I had to show my prospective boss that I
believed in my ability to do the job. I mean, who knows everything about
a job before you accept it? If I had shown any self-doubts about my ability to do the job it would have been a confidence killer and probably an interview killer.

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">For many women, confidence has everything to do with how you feel about your appearance. You may be ready to do more meaningful work in your career, but you have self-doubt because you know you'll need to get out and sell yourself. You'll need to make a good first impression so you have to get your image right! The negative self-talk chips away at your confidence, causing you to not believe in yourself, avoid taking risks, and look to others' opinions
instead of trusting your gut. This lack of confidence may stop you from taking the necessary steps to start a more meaningful career or leave an unhealthy relationship.

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">Confidence
gives you the strength to trust your gut
and follow your
passion!

<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; font-size: large;">How confident are you when it comes to creating your own signature look?

<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif; font-size: large;">Are you confident enough to follow your own voice?

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; font-size: large;">

I highly recommend this book if you missed it. However, for many of my clients, necks are no laughing matter. Almost every client over fifty says to me, "I hate my neck" during our style consultation. I've heard women describe their necks as "chicken neck," "blotchy neck," wrinkled neck," and "turkey neck." YIKES! My response is always the same. I say to her, "Oh, you have a lovely neck. Here, wrap this scarf around your neck. Look how beautiful that looks..."

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">If you think you have an imperfect neck (who doesn't?) you can use one of these 5 style techniques to help you get over feeling badly about your neck. I call these techniques "The Art of Distraction," which is using clothing and accessories to draw attention away from your flaws and towards your assets:

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;"><span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">Style Tip #1
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">The most obvious solution to disguise your neck is to wrap a SCARF around your neck. Pictured below is a simply polished woman from Advanced Style. <span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">Layer, layer, layer! <span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">Another obvious style choice is a turtleneck sweater or a coat, which covers every inch of your neck and keeps you warm. Make sure the color is flattering against your skin tone, as that's a lot of fabric right up against your face. Also, if you have a large bodice, stay away from thick, cable knit fabric.

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">If you live anywhere the weather changes significantly, it's time to move your summer rags out and move your winter rags into center position. If you're like me, you use two ends of your closet. I have a wear-it-this-season end and put-it-away-until-next-season end. Everything that can be worn all year stays in the middle. <span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Winter is about layering, faux fur and accessories.
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Here are some Style Tips to think about as you’re building your winter wardrobe:

Style Tips for Winter

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Desire. Know what you love. Know your colors and styles. Tear out magazine pages, surf the web, collect images of what looks best on you so that you can go hunting for it. If you know exactly what you’re looking for, you won’t buy mistakes, and you’ll make a beeline for it when you see it!

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Quality. Choose quality (good advice in all areas of your life). It is better to buy one quality sweater that will last for years, than three cheap sweaters that get stretched out or worn out by spring. Look for fabrics like wool, cashmere, and quality knits. They’ll keep you a lot warmer and look nicer!

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Patience. Perfection takes time. Don't buy anything that doesn't make you feel AMAZING. Seriously. Compromised style rarely feels good and looks worse!

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Budget. Set a budget for what you'd be willing to pay for the PERFECT sweater, coat, or pair of boots. And check out Clothing Resale Shops in your neighborhood for winter treasures – wool scarves, cardigans, or leather boots.

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Color. Winter is a time to wear darker, more intense colors. You can still pop your outfits with metallics, icy gray, icy blue, as well as white. For those "Winter" color types, wearing deep jewel tones, such as royal blue and regal purple is a fabulous change of pace from black.
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Awareness. Most importantly of all, KNOW YOURSELF. Authenticity is energizing and magnetic, turning you into an attraction machine!

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Treat Yourself. Paint your nails a deep rich color. Invest in a few pairs of cashmere socks. Buy new winter pajamas that you will enjoy wearing while you curl up with a good book and a cup of hot tea.Linda Waldonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13761147009679697558noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3443854834684729546.post-55538647775417695182014-11-15T11:45:00.001-08:002014-11-15T11:45:44.242-08:00<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">One of my clients told me the other day that she wants to wear her skinny pants but she's concerned that they make her look "hippy." As I looked around at the eyewear choices I noticed that most of the brands were clothing designers, such as Karen Kane, Lucky Brand, Polo, Coach, etc. It reminded me that eyeglasses make an important fashion statement so it's important to choose glasses that make you look and feel confident, as well as balanced and attractive.

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">Here are three True Colors Tips to consider when choosing your next pair of eyeglasses. It will save you time and mistakes!

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">Whether you're shopping for clothes or eyewear, I recommend the same procedure:

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif; font-size: small;">#1: COLOR - Select colors that complement your skin and eye color
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif; font-size: small;">#2: STYLE - The shape and style should balance your facial features
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">#3: FIT - Make sure the glasses sit comfortably

<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">Color

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">It's important to choose glasses that are in the same color family as the clothes you wear. For example, if your coloring is soft, muted and "summery," this transparent-colored DKNY pair will look harmonious on your face.

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">On the other hand, if your best colors are mustard-gold, dark orange and other "autumn" colors, you will ROCK a tortoise-shell frame (I bought the Lucky Brand glasses below).

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif; font-size: small;">Another consideration
is the metal you choose. If your coloring is warm, a gold metal frame
looks best. If your coloring is cool, choose silver frames.

<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">Style
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">Your face shape pretty much determines your frame shape. In general, I like to mimic your face shape with the frame. If you have a round or heart-shaped face, try a cat-eye, aviator or large wrap frame. Basically you want to match the size and shape of your face.

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">Another style consideration is the overall "personality" of the glasses. If you have a fun personality your glasses should be fun, too! Play up your sassy style with cat-eye shapes and lots of bling!

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">If you're more of a quiet observer personality, choose a classic style and you'll feel like the glasses express who you are inside and out.
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">Fit
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">Your eye care professional will guide you to find the right technical fit around your nose bridge and temples. But, more importantly, just like your clothes, your glasses should fit who you are inside and express your personality. The best judge of that is YOU.

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">Do you enjoy shopping for glasses, or do you end up trying on every pair in the store before you find the right pair? Do you think these shopping tips will help you pick out the perfect pair of glasses next time?
If you ask any woman whether she's in favor of hiring someone to help her clean and organize her closet to create fabulous outfits that work, she'll invariably say YES. But when it comes to actually scheduling this service, she'll find many reasons to avoid it.

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">Perhaps this stems from an underlying nervousness about confronting poor clothing choices she's made in the past (who hasn't made mistakes?), or the fact that some of her favorite clothes don't fit anymore. She just doesn't want to go there! What is it about our closet that reminds us of the past and all the experiences we've enjoyed or regretted?

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">A style consultant can help you "heal your closet" by removing the confusing clutter and old reminders. She'll help you rediscover the hidden treasures in your closet that bring you joy and she'll make those clothes more present in your life. Cleaning out your closet is like a spiritual reawakening -- out with the old, in with the new!

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">Here's a compelling reason to hire a style consultant: she will take you by the hand and guide you gently (or maybe she'll be more like Jillian Michaels shouting at you with tough love) through the process of confronting your cluttered closet, cleaning out what doesn't work, returning the garments that still fit and work for you, and organizing beautiful, put-together outfits. In the end you'll discover that almost everything you need is in your closet. You just have to clear out everything that doesn't work for you anymore! Doesn't this sound like a metaphor for life?

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">Here's another reason to hire a style consultant: she will help you create "Go-To Outfits" for your current lifestyle. For example, she could create complete, accessorized outfits for your:

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">Client meetings

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">Job interviews

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">Date nights

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">Speaking engagements

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">Yes, this service does cost money, I won't kid you. Style consultants have to earn a living. But my experience has been that no one has EVER regretted it; on the contrary, what I hear from my clients proves to me that this very personal, very motivational and life-changing experience is worth every dollar and moment you spend.
Wardrobe Staples are not to be confused with the basic foundation pieces, such as underwear, socks, sleepwear, etc. Wardrobe Staples are the versatile building blocks that make your outfit come together in a cohesive look. If your staples aren't in place you will probably end up with a lot of closet orphans, or one-offs, that don't really coordinate with anything.

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">Your Wardrobe Staples will be different than mine. They're very personalized and based on your signature style, climate, body type, and personality. Do you prefer to wear a blazer over your t-shirt or button-down shirt? Prefer jeans to dressy trousers? Or, do you wear pencil skirts and maxis? It's important to ensure that your wardrobe staples are current. You should revisit seasonally to ensure the staples still fit, <span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;"><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">suit your lifestyle needs, are fashionable<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;"> and in good shape. Yes, even jeans wear out!

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">My list of Wardrobe Staples has changed over the years as I've simplified my lifestyle and work mostly from home. My climate is warm and temperate most of the year, so I don't make dramatic wardrobe shifts from one season to the next. I now prefer to wear nearly flat sandals, shoes and boots versus tall heels. Here's my list:

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">V-neck t-shirts and loose-fitting tops: I collect v-neck t-shirts in high quality cotton in all my colors. I also wear a lot of loose-fitting tops that I sometimes half-tuck in front. These looser tops range in color, geometric patterns, and even animal prints.

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">Casual blazers (including a jean jacket): I still love adding a casual blazer over a pair of jeans and a nice top when I meet with clients or go out to lunch with friends. A jacket pulls my outfit together, and with the addition of a colorful scarf, I have a chic, casual look. My blazers include denim, corduroy, wool, silk and cotton.

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">Cardigan sweaters: I own several cardigans in various lengths and thicknesses.When the weather gets chilly, my favorite outfit is a long-sleeved t-shirt, jeans, cardigan and boots.

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">Jeans: I just discovered and purchased a pair of Gap Boyfriend jeans for running around town. These aren't for everyone, as they're loose and won't show off your beautiful curves. However, for comfort I give them an A++. I have several skinny jeans in dark blue, black, white, tan skinny, and spring colors. I'm happy to see bootleg jeans making a comeback because I held onto my Paige bootleg jeans!

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">Dressy Tops and Cigarette Pants: My signature look for events and speaking engagements is a fitted silk top with a black or navy cigarette pant, topped by a dressy blazer (Theory or BCBG), and either suede Sam Edelman booties or black gladiator sandals. The look is fashionable, versatile and best of all, comfortable for sitting and walking.

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">Chunky, colorful necklaces and metal bracelets: I love finding unique necklaces that POP my outfit. A local artist makes beautiful, one-of-a-kind necklaces from antique pieces she finds all over the world. Another local artist hammers gorgeous copper bracelets -- I love wearing copper because that's my True Colors metal as a COPPER (discover your True Colors!).

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">Tall Flat Boots and Booties: Black and Neutral: I have a black Sam Edelman tall boot that I bought at Finders Keepers Consignment, brown suede tall boot, and several booties in browns, tan, cognac and black. Most are several seasons old, but they still look current and attractive.

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">If you haven't already done so, consider making a list of Wardrobe Staples. When clients call me for a style emergency session it's often a case of missing or dated wardrobe staples. These are not the most exciting items to shop for, but they transform your wardrobe into signature style outfits. When you keep your staples current and replenished you'll have a stress-free dressing experience every day!
Whoooeee! It's an inch of pure fashion fun and trendy ideas to spruce up your sexy, fall wardrobe.

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">You'll see trends such as thick knit sweaters, sweetheart necklines, menswear, flared jeans, cognac accessories, boxy coats, white pumps after Labor Day, aubergine, tailored culottes, animal prints (yes, still around!), monochromatic colored outfits, chunky knits, furry faux coats, flat oxfords, miniskirts, long skirts (yes, on the page after miniskirts), luxe track pants, nude makeup and nail art. You get the idea...
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">For those who have been around the block a few times, you're probably not running out to buy all the latest trends. Your style is more about individual expression, comfort, classicism, exhibiting strength and confidence. So my advice is choose one or two trends that light you up inside and pair them with your existing wardrobe. Here's some suggestions (Men's fall trend ideas coming soon!):

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">Loose-Fitting, Wide Pants
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">I'm talking harem pants, silky loose track pants, boyfriend jeans, and wide-all-over trousers. <span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">Boot cut and flared jeans.

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">Elegantly sloppy.

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">If you've been living in skinny jeans and leggings for years, this is quite a switch. <span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">I have a feeling this loose pant style is like a potato chip -- you can't stop with just one!

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">Pair with colorful eyewear, cream wool pants, and animal print pumps!
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">We're still wearing our booties from summer to winter, and it looks like there's no stopping this trend.

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">Wear booties with skirts and dresses. Here are a few tips to pull off this look:

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">Keep hose and booties a similar color to create a longer leg line

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">If flat booties are hard for you to pull off, wear a heeled bootie for a longer look

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">When wearing mid-calf boots, show a little knee

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">Booties that are low and close to the ankle tend to look more flattering
